Wow,
this is the longest I've gone without posting since I started
Samantha's site! Go figure, it's also my first week back to
"work" - I have taken on a couple of small writing gigs.
Apparently my baby is the figurative "barefoot cobbler's child".
Her website is the only one I've neglected. I'll try to
make up for it with a full-length post today.I forgot to point out last week that Samantha is now five months old - one month for each WEEK she originally spent in the NICU. I can't believe how quickly the time passes. It really seemed like we were there forever, and now it's just a (very unpleasant) distant memory.
Samantha and parents had a great time last weekend. Auntie Caroline and Uncle Barry came to visit. We got to spend lots of time looking at their wedding plans and ideas. It's going to be a spectacular wedding (but moderately priced, if you're looking, Papa).
Uncle Barry is a natural with Samantha (of course, he's had some practice with his brother's kids). By the way, the burp cloth was Samantha's choice, not Barry's.

It was so much fun to have them here, and VERY hard to see them go. They spoiled us rotten. Caroline made a fabulous dinner on Saturday, and they brought movies, bocce ball, and some really good treats from Woody's Smokehouse in Centerville, Texas. Apparently, this is a mandatory side-trip if you are ever en route between Dallas and Houston on I-45. Mmmm. Jerky.

Look, baby, no hands!
Over the weekend, Samantha reached the point of true tummy time play, using both hands to play with her toys. She also made a go at learning to drink from a sippy cup.
Her physical therapists, pediatrician, and neurosurgeon have all recently commented on the improvement in her eyes - she now gets compliments on them when we are out and about! How miraculous is it, to go from continuous downgaze to "Wow, your daughter has gorgeous eyes." I can't even verbalize how terrific that feels.
She still loves that bouncy seat - she even loves "standing" up and checking out the toys from other anges.
