Samantha Today: October 2007 Archives

Monday was such an idyllic day.  Samantha and I had to mail a package, so we also stopped by the park and sat by the lake while Sam had her bottle.  We watched the ducks, which were only a little scary.  Not that one duck is scary, but this is one of those parks where everyone feeds the ducks.  When you sit down on a bench, they waddle toward you en masse like little, quacking, avian zombies.

But I digress.  We watched the ducks, saw a bald eagle soaring overhead, felt the wind in our hair, and relaxed.  "This," I thought to myself, "is what I imagined it would be like to be a stay-at-home mom."   I'm sure there will always be these tiny oases of calm in the midst of the chaos, but sometimes it's really hard to wait for them.

You know, I was planning to write about the rest of the week, but I feel so great after remembering Monday that I am going to leave it at that.  Which probably says all you need to know about Tuesday - Friday.

We are going to visit Carl's mom and stepdad this weekend, so there will no doubt be plentiful pictures the first of the week.

Happy Friday!

Samantha's neurology appointment yesterday was anti-climactic.  We will see him again in 3 months and consider doing another MRI then.  In short, no new news.

We stopped by the NICU to see the nurses, and they were incredibly happy to see Samantha doing well.  I guess they don't often see what happens to the babies after they leave.  It felt so satisfying to put smiles on their faces!

I just can't believe how quickly time is passing.  Samantha had her 6-month visit to the pediatrician this week.  Dr. Purcell was so thrilled with her.  She insisted on cuddling her while we talked.

Dr. Purcell was the pediatrician on call the night Samantha was admitted to the ICU - she was dragged out of bed at midnight to check out Samantha's seizures.  They have a special bond, and Dr. Purcell admitted that she never expected to see Samantha thriving like she is today.  I think it made her week to do her check-up!

I'm also posting a couple of pix of Sam in action.

Samantha just got the opportunity to pet Spoetzl, our crotchety, geriatric, black and white cat.  In an outcome that will shock those who have met Spoetzl, he began to purr.  Smart kitty.  He can stay another week.  :-)
